Influence Change through Action

Sometimes I get into the "that's not how I would do it" trend. I get caught up in my frustrations and idealism and I do the "open mouth and insert foot" thing. Serving people in the church setting I have found that implementing change is no small task, especially when you aren't the one at the helm steering the way. Maybe you have found yourself in that same spot, trying to implement change though screaming and pointing fingers. This isn't helpful within the body of Christ and this isn't the way to implement change amongst non-believers. Don't lose to your frustrations and quit, rebel or worse. Instead, stop trying to IMPLEMENT your change and start to INFLUENCE change. Here's how:
STUDY – Hit the books! (1) Study your current situation and what you want to change. Being able to communicate clearly about what frustrates you will be a huge tool. (2) Look to others that have made or are making similar changes. You may find out that you are a pioneer, but for most of us "its all been done before." When you look around you'll find ideas, things to avoid and possibly partners.

MODEL – Get out there on the Runway and "Work It!!" No…not that type of modeling but sorta. You need to LIVE IT OUT. You can't change what you aren't controlling, but you can change your own actions. When you model change you either INFLUENCE others to adopt the change or find out it was a horrible idea.

If the change is good, people will notice. When people notice, they want to join in. When they join in, others notice and others join in.

What frustrates you? Are you going to quit, yell and scream, sit and pout or INFLUENCE change?

If you are worshiping God and getting “worn out,” you must be doing it all wrong!

I’m in this learning journey myself. There is so much that frustrates me, drives me up a wall, hurts my feelings, etc. but upon close examinations of all these things I realized at the center of it was ME. I don’t need me at the center of my universe. It kills my family, friends, colleagues and ministry to be bogged down by ME problems. I need Christ in the center of everything.

We complain too much: http://read.ly/Phil2.14.HCSB
This verse is so right… Duh its the Bible. Complaining robs us of the Joy that God has promised us through Worship.

We don’t share our Joy enough: http://read.ly/Phil2.18.HCSB
This junk is contagious…we have to share it with each other…and the world.

Conclusion: Worship enthusiastically with your life and bring others along with you. You will be Refreshed! ( http://read.ly/Col3.23.HCSB ) ( http://read.ly/Rom12.1.HCSB )

Confidence

Who has Confidence?

Sure a lot of people have a great deal of confidence. For many this confidence is directly tied to their ego, or maybe their id…I’m not Freud OK. I often wish that I had the confidence of some other people to do what they do (ENVY)…Yikes. I’ll give some examples: The Worship Leader (dream job) some of you make it look so easy (who wouldn’t want to spend their whole life leading people to sing out to God), The Lead Pastor (look at all the people looking at him, must be nice), there are plenty of others on the list ending in President of the USA, but enough of me exposing my sin nature…I’m confessing this to highlight a brilliant point! :)

God can use our confidence to propel His Kingdome forward.

(1 John 5) 13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life.14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.

Our Confidence must be in the right thing: JESUS!

  • I’m confident in the GOSPEL and through it I have eternal life…and others can too!
  • I’m confident that GOD HEARS what I ask.
  • I’m confident that He will FREELY GIVE whatever I ask according to HIS WILL.

Being on God’s team is like playing for the Yankees, but better.  I can rest assured that God has paid the highest price for me and all the games are rigged. You decide which part is like playing for the Yankees and which part is better. :)

What are you confident in?

Things that I remember…

I remember the day that I asked Christ to save me from my sins and thinking “this is what it is all about!”

I remember what it was like to grow up in the Anderson/Anderson house. (so blessed)

I remember the first time I didn’t speak up when I knew that I was supposed to.

I remember my best friend and miss him every day.

I remember God’s calling on my life.

I remember the day I married my wife.

I remember cowering on the floor of a hospital asking God to perform a miracle.

I remember the day my boys were born.

I remember all the people in my life and their unique influence.

I remember that Christ isn’t done with me.

I remember so much more… What do you remember?
