Starting a movement ~ lessons on leadership

Everyone wants to start something huge. Especially since we live in the days of “american idol” and “america’s next top model” or whatever that dance show is that my former intern watches with a group of friends at his house and now has tried to form his own dance crew — I digress.

I believe this is from a leadership conference, but I saw it at http://tonymorganlive.com/ (Tony Morgan’s Blog) and wanted to pass it along. Watch this!

If it was as easy as dancing crazy to start a movement…I’ve met a lot of youth pastors who should be surpassing 1 million in there youth group.

What movement are you trying to start? Can you use some of these principles to help you?

what do you promise but can’t deliver on?

Watched this video on Fail blog, and thought about some of the things that I’ve promised that might not have been accurate (when put to the test.)

Like when we promise for a lock-in “the most amazing fun you’ve ever had.” Not everyone would agree with that. Maybe if we define the test we would get desired results. Don’t get me wrong, we do lock-in’s right in the middle school ministry at mcgregor.

It is a good thought… What do you promise but can’t deliver on?

UNITY What is it? How do we get it?

Unity - People getting together behind a common purpose or vision…. easy to say, but it is a daunting task.

People are all different. This makes coming together all the more difficult, but we do it all the time. Think of the sporting events, our great nation and watching the Bachelor…all things that have united people from all different walks of life. (maybe the bachelor doesn't fit)

In Numbers 13 to 14 you can see the destruction of disunity and the reward that unity brings. I love how Joshua and Caleb boldly stand behind the vision that Moses received from God.
- Unity requires great trust. Trust that our leader is truly in touch with God's will. Obviously Caleb and Joshua had this, but I could also assume that God had confirmed this vision in their hearts.
- Unity requires sacrifice. It cannot be about you, it's not INITY. Drop the personal agenda's at the door and get on board with God's plan.
- Unity delivers huge rewards. Israel got the promised land and apart from some years in exile and other border disputes they are still there today… right?!?

Things to look out for.
- Don't get caught up in the obstacles, trust God to guide you through them. Remember the vision is what God has confirmed in your heart not what it will take to get there.
- Don't not be willing to sacrifice. Some visions will greatly impact future generations not your own. Faithfulness now = fruit for generations to come. (I see this as a testimony of all the churches I have served)
- Do prioritize your relationship with the Lord. This will greatly enhance your contribution to seeing the vision realized.

I love our church (McGregor Baptist in Fort Myers)
I'm excited about the fresh Vision from our Pastor!
I'm ready to move FORW>RD to what God has in store for us.

What are you united with or for?

SWEET TEAmwork

There is just something about SWEET TEA in the south.  Every good southerner has an opinion about it. Here are a few of my observations about southerners and really good SWEET TEA:

  • People will drive out of their way to get it.
  • People will tell others about it, even if they don’t really care.
  • Other people will go to that restaurant/café/truck stop even if they don’t particularly like sweet tea. (Basically they know if the sweet tea is good, they must be doin’ something right)

The dynamic of your team will either drive people toward you or away from you. And, in our case, will drive people toward Christ or away from Christ.

Within our student ministry, we have been through several seasons of changes, but none of them compare to what God has in store. God has led Backstagehsm and Triplemsm to join forces (so to speak) to reach the students of Lee County and beyond. Over the past several months TEAM has taken on new meaning. Working closely with others means added resources, better quality and more support. Ben, Meg and I along with our volunteers are committed to becoming a SWEET TEAm. Cheesy – “I know” but it’s going to be worth it.
