Last night I tried to teach Tyler (3) how to play Mario Kart Wii. Sounds simple enough and it started out fine, until I got the wii turn on. He demanded that we start playing the game now. I tried to explain to him that it takes time to get everything running. “NOW!” he insisted. I finally got a race started and I’m trying to teach him how to turn the wheel and hold the button, but he wouldn’t listen. He was perfectly happy running into walls and going the wrong way. He only wanted to do it his way!
Mark Batterson made this statement yesterday on Twitter: “I don’t care how much you know. How teachable are you? Teachability trumps knowledge every time!”
If we aren’t teachable:
1 >> we will frustrate leadership above, around and below us
2 >> we will be left doing things the wrong way or inefficiently until we quit, burnout or become teachable
3 >> we will possibly lead others to failure or worse
Are you TEACHABLE?
Mike Ash at Next Level Church here in Fort Myers recently shared with me a list of 5 steps to becoming teachable.
1 >> Read a lot of books
2 >> Ask a lot of questions
3 >> Find wise counsel in EVERY area
4 >> Be willing to Relearn everything
5 >> Don’t let pride get in the way
Great advice for anyone.
